Young Adult Advocacy Academy

Join On Our Own of Maryland's TAY Project in a 5 week Academy style virtual event!

Have you always been interested in advocacy? Have you wondered how you can enhance your advocacy skills? This is the workshop series for you!

This event is an opportunity for young adults (18-29) who have lived experience with Mental Health and/or Substance Use struggles and have an interest in peer support and/or advocacy to network with each other, connect with others who have similar experiences and hear from experienced experts in the field. Over a period of 5 weeks young adults will have the opportunity to connect with other young adult peers and participate in facilitated conversations about advocacy, and will be able to receive Supervisory Hours from a Registered Peer Supervisor. Participants may earn up to 3 CPRS CEU hours (3 advocacy) throughout the series. Please note that CEUs are only provided for specific sessions. Topics will include "Using Art for Advocacy", "Public Policy Advocacy 101" and "Storytelling for Advocates". Participants will also receive group and 1 on 1 guidance on how to create compelling advocacy stories.

Those attending must be between the ages of 18 and 29, a resident of Maryland and have an active interest in advocacy. Participants must also have access to a device (ex: phone, tablet, computer) with audio, video, and internet access. Participants are expected to attend all 5 sessions, all will be 2 hours long.

Participants will receive packages of self care and activity materials via mail, and will receive a stipend for participation. Please contact TAY Program Manager Rowan at rowan@onourownmd.org with questions or for more information.
