Prioritizing Kinship Caregiver Placements: Current Policies, Practices and Challenges Webinar

The Birth Parent National Network (BPPN) is hosting a webinar discussing “Prioritizing Kinship Caregiver Placements: Current Policies, Practices and Challenges.” The presentation and lively discussion will feature representatives from Generations United, the American Bar Association, Casey Family Programs and the Alliance’s BPPN.

Prioritizing placements of children with kinship caregivers can help minimize the trauma of removal and help to maintain a child’s connections with siblings, parents, and other family members. Oftentimes, relatives and grandparents become caregivers in emergency situations. Caring for a relative child can present many unexpected challenges such as unanticipated expenses, having to meet licensing requirements, or having to overcome negative findings on a criminal background check. Non-licensed relatives usually receive significantly lower payments than licensed foster care providers and this also can negatively impact the numbers of relatives who are willing to care for children.

Those interested in attending can RSVP for free here. If you have any questions, please reach out to Meryl Levine, Natl. Director of Parent Partnerships at the Children’s Trust Fund Alliance, at meryl.levine@ctfalliance.org.
