Lay Health Educator Program for Faith Communities

The Healthy Community Partnership at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center invites you to apply to the Fall 2021 Lay Health Educator Program. This is a free, 10-week, 15-hour course for volunteers from religious communities who are interested in addressing many of today’s greatest health challenges. Participants receive instruction, resources and ongoing support to develop proactive and compassionate programs for their congregations and communities. Some of the topics discussed include advance directives, depression, dementia, and hypertension.

No prior training or experience in health care is required. The 10-week program is offered by Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, with instruction provided by physicians, psychologists, nurses, social workers and chaplains.

Classes begin September 9 and will be held every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 pm through November 11. The sessions will be held over Zoom.

Participants who meet the following requirements will also receive a $150 stipend, paid directly to the faith institution, to cover costs to organize this event (e.g., copies, refreshments, giveaways, etc.):

  • Attend at least 8 out of the 10 weekly sessions

  • Organize at least one event in your faith community within 6 months of completing the program
