Johns Hopkins University is dedicated to fostering transparency, accountability, and community involvement in shaping its public safety policies. The institution is currently in the process of developing and refining these policies based on 21st-century best practices, alignment with JHU values, and compliance with legal standards.
Key Highlights:
🌐 Consultation and Benchmarking: Johns Hopkins has actively engaged with external experts in progressive policing to ensure the incorporation of the latest best practices. The draft policies are meticulously benchmarked against reform-oriented policing policies from across the nation.
🤝 Community Input: The draft policies, organized into two tranches, have undergone a thorough review by the JH Accountability Board. The first set, published on September 21, completed its public comment period on November 20 (extended to December 20). The second set, released on November 30, is currently open for public review until January 29.
Your Voice Matters: As a community member, your feedback is crucial in shaping the final version of these policies. When providing input, consider the following questions:
Is this policy in line with community values and needs?
Does the policy assist JHPD in safely fulfilling its mission?
Is the policy clear and easily understandable, or are there areas requiring clarification?
Are there any aspects not covered in the draft policy that should be addressed?
Get Involved: Review the draft policies and share your insights to contribute to the development of policies that reflect community values and ensure public safety in the best possible way.
